Philosophy

We have two Philosophy discussion groups, differing slightly in mode of operation, as explained below.

Key details of the groups

Philosophy 1

We welcome anyone with an interest in learning about philosophy to Philosophy 1, no prior knowledge is necessary. We read a chapter from our current book-choice (or something in the media) in preparation for the meeting, and then look at it in detail during the class. Everyone gets a chance to give their views and to learn from others during discussion.

Philosophy 2

Our Philosophy 2 members tend to have some previous experience of studying philosophy. At the end of each year we choose a book for the following year and take it in turns to present a chapter. Presentations are followed by lively discussions.
