Our Venues
Our groups meet at Farnham Maltings and other venues around Farnham.
- Please check where your group meets on Groups | Farnham u3a.
- Make sure your contact details are up to date on Beacon in case the Group Leader or Contact needs to cancel or rearrange a session at short notice.
The Maltings
We’re extremely fortunate to be able to access the facilities at the Maltings: many other u3as meet in members’ homes or in village halls. The Maltings offer us discounted rates on normal room hire for around 90 of our groups each year, in return for us being flexible.
- Room changes can occur at short notice because of bookings by other hirers, festivals, performances or maintenance etc, and will be communicated by the volunteers in the Groups Team.
- Please check the notice board opposite the reception desk, updated daily, to see which room your group has been allocated, and remember that specific rooms are not guaranteed.
Accessibility
There is an accessibility lift in the Maltings to rooms on the first floor. Visitors using this lift may need to go through some rooms in use to access the rest of the first floor.
Setting up
- The Groups Team keep details of the layout (tables and chairs) requested by each group and share this with the Maltings so their team can set the rooms up for each session.
- The standard set-up time allocated for groups is 15 minutes before the session is due to start. If you need longer, let the Groups Team know in advance. Otherwise, please don’t enter the room more than 15 minutes before the session starts, even if it looks empty, as the Maltings team may need to move furniture around.
Audio-visual and other Equipment
- We provide our own equipment (other than the ceiling-mounted projector in the Barley Room which belongs to the Maltings). This includes providing our own projectors, pens, paper and flipcharts, so please don’t ask the Maltings staff to provide these items.
- There are four u3a cupboards in the Maltings, where our equipment is stored. See further detail and an equipment set-up guide below.
- Please put everything back after use. Let the Groups Team know if anything is missing or broken.
Fire safety and emergencies
Please read the documents on our website about fire safety and evacuation.
- It is important that all members provide emergency contact details on Beacon, so we have a phone number for someone to contact if anything happens to you.
- For groups going out and about (e.g. cycling, rambling, theatre trips or day trips), you may also be required to provide emergency contact information to the Group Leader.
Refreshments
If your groups wish to order (and pay for) refreshments, please contact the Maltings catering team paula.barratt@farnhammaltings.com, a few days in advance.
